Write an observational essay about an intriguing or unusual event, place, person, organization, or activity. (You can also choose something you "experience" through film or news or close attention to a website).
Make sure your topic adhere's to Mary Pipher's call for "Change Writing." This means that you want to choose something meaningful to you that has a larger cultural significance.
Essay Parameters:
For this essay you will be graded on your use of descriptive and detailed language, as well as your style.
Include an opening and a closing appropriate for this type of essay as described in our text. “Observation” essays are less like academic essays and so the “thesis” might be implied in a rich, descriptive opening. The conclusion or closing should be sure to answer the “so what” question -- why did this matter?
Use MLA format (typed, double spaced, 12 point font in Times New Roman or other appropriate font)
Include an MLA works cited page with at least 1 source that helps you present the subject
Write 2-4 pages for this essay.
Use appropriate, college level grammar, sentence style, and vocabulary
