Sample Answer
1. Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)
A urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection in any part of your urinary system. This system includes your kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra. Most infections involve the lower urinary tract — the bladder and the urethra.
Causes: UTIs are most commonly caused by bacteria, particularly Escherichia coli (E. coli), which normally lives in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. These bacteria can enter the urinary tract through the urethra and multiply.
Factors that increase the risk of UTIs include:
- Female anatomy: Women have a shorter urethra than men, which means bacteria have a shorter distance to travel to reach the bladder. The urethra’s proximity to the anus also increases risk.
