Based on this week's readings, the documentary film "My Brooklyn", and your own observations, how does the influx and an increased presence of upper-income people change an urban neighborhood? Please provide concrete examples (perhaps even your own neighborhood or a neighborhood where your fiends or family live?). How would you describe the new residents moving in? What type of businesses appear and why? Who is frequenting such businesses and why? Do locals hang out at the newly open bars, cafés and restaurants? Why AND Why not? Do the shops and small businesses change the neighborhood character and the feel of the streets? Do you see the locals and the newcomers intermingling? Why/why not? How do the rents change? Is there an increased police presence in the neighborhood? Lastly, how do you personally feel about those changes? Positive, negative, or a little bit of both?
