Introduction How has tuberculosis impacted society and the significant role it plays in changing vaccinations within society? II. How tuberculosis (TB) is contracted A. Physical contact 1. “TB is a contagious or infectious disease that is spread from person-to-person.” 2. When an individual is in the same atmosphere with a person infected with tuberculosis, inhaling the same air could cause the individual to get sick. 3. “A person's natural body defenses are usually able to control the infection so it does not cause disease.” 4. Everyone has a different immune system; individuals contact different diseases in various ways. There are numerous of defenses to protect the body from hazardous. Approximately 10 percent of all humans develop tuberculosis in their lifetime. Physical contact plays a significant role with contracting tuberculosis. However, there are a variety of ways to contract tuberculosis. Tuberculosis is a disease not to be taken lightly, if an individual continues to decrease, then he or she should seek medical attention. II. How tuberculosis is diagnosed B. Symptoms 1. “Active TB makes you sick and can spread to others. It can occur in the first few weeks after infection with the TB bacteria, or it might occur years later”. 2. There are two types of tuberculosis: First is active tuberculosis is unable to fight off the TB bacteria. This causes the lungs and other parts of the body to be infected. There are numerous of symptoms associated with AT; chronic cough, chest pain, and coughing up blood are all symptoms related to this disease. 3. “Persons with latent TB infection do not feel sick and do not have any symptoms. They are infected with M. tuberculosis, but do not have TB disease.” 4. The second type of tuberculosis is Latent tuberculosis. Latent tuberculosis has no symptoms, which could cause individuals to not feel sick. Individuals who contract Latent TB cannot spread TB, also associated with this disease is a positive TB skin test reaction or test. If individuals contract Latent TB, they should not seek treatment, however if they would like to seek medical attention just to be aware and ask questions about this disease, he/she have every right too. Having knowledge of the general symptoms of TB makes individuals feel comfortable knowing the difference between the different types of tuberculosis. TB symptoms are significantly important because of how discrete some of the causes and effects of the two types of infections. III. The tuberculosis is treated C. Treatments 1. “Individuals with a positive tuberculin skin test may or may not receive preventive drug therapy depending on the exposure history.” 2. There are different treatment types of tuberculosis. Active TB requires skin test ,chest x-rays, sputum test and drug therapy in order to treat the disease. Doctors are advised to consider the different drug options to fit which one is more suitable for the patient’s health. 3. “The standard treatment regimen for LTBI is nine months of daily INH. This regimen is very effective and is the preferred regimen for HIV-infected people taking antiretroviral therapy, and children aged 2–11 years of age”. 4. This nine month regimen is an effective option to consider for patients. This drug differs from each age and could cause different sight effects depending on an individual’s age. There positives and negatives to this drug regimen; one is it is an effective drug and some will see improve over time. A disadvantage is certain individuals can take this drug, especially children younger than two, individuals affected with HIV/AIDS, individuals infected with INH and pregnant women. There are many things to considered, treatment wise with tuberculosis. Everyone can consider the best options for their bodies and what should or shouldn’t go inside their bodies. Individuals have the right to go against doctor’s order, however professionals are more likely to know what the best options and their outcomes are going to be for their patients. IV. Conclusion
