Tragicomedy

After having read Ch. 7: Genre participate in the following discussion.
Our textbook references a statement made by the philosopher Kierkegaard who said, "Existence itself, the act
of existence, is a striving and is both pathetic and comic in the same degree." For this week's discussion board
assignment I want you to reflect on this statement and then answer the following question:
What is your favorite example of a Tragicomedy?
Some things to consider in your discussion include:

  1. While examples drawn from theater are preferred, feel free to discuss cinema if necessary?
  2. What are the defining principles of a tragicomedy?
  3. Which principles of the genre speak to you in the example you chose?
