Description
Tiling a Room
Pick a room in your house, apartment, or dorm.
Draw a diagram of your room to include in your posting.
Measure each side of your room to the nearest eighth of an inch. Be exact in your measurement.
Compute the perimeter and area of your room by hand and then check your answer using your calculator.
Go online and pick out a tile. Record the dimensions of the tile and compute how many tiles you will need to cover the area. You do not need to allow for space between the tiles for this activity.
Calculate how much will it cost for the tile needed for your room. (Be sure to show your calculations)
Please answer all questions and explain your calculations in your response.
When posting substantive entries to others' problems, think about the way the problem was solved (Was it solved the same way you would have solved it?), the accuracy of the solution, if the reasoning behind the solution made sense to you, whether or not it helped you solve a similar problem, etc. Pay particular attention to how they answered #5. How is their method similar or different from yours?
