Write a 600-900 word review of an academic, peer reviewed journal article. Book reviews do not count.
Reading the article will further your knowledge of the Revolutionary Era and introduce you to academic writing.
Find an article that stays between the years 1754 and 1800.
- YOU MUST POST THE WORD COUNT ON YOUR SUBMISSION*
How to find an article:
Go to https://gmercyu.libguides.com/az.php?a=j and click on “JSTOR”
Search for themes that interest you, but remember to stay within the limits of 1754-1800.
I recommend narrowing your search from the beginning by using the features on
http://www.jstor.org/action/showAdvancedSearch.
You may also want to search only the top academic journals for an article…these include The William and
Mary Quarterly, The Journal of American History, and the Journal of the Early Republic. You may also consider
Pennsylvania History: A Journal of Mid-Atlantic Studies or The Pennsylvania Magazine of History and
Biography if you want an article that relates to issues in the Pennsylvania region.
If you are unsure about the quality or validity of an article you find, please ask.
Include your name, the date, word count of your paper, and a Chicago Manual of Style citation for the article
you picked. Be sure to use a “hanging indent” if your citation goes onto a second line. Use the following as a
guideline:
Name of Author, “Article Title in Quotes,” Name of Journal in Italics, vol. X, no. X (Month or Season, Year),
pages.
Stephen Aron, “Pioneers and Profiteers: Land Speculation and the Homestead Ethic in Kentucky,” Western
Historical Quarterly, vol. 23, no. 2 (May, 1992), 179-198.
