AND

(B) What class interests in the United States were at work in media coverage of the overthrow of the Chavez regime and in the coverage of Venezuela?

For Part (B), you must read at least three stories in the mainstream media and three stories from the “alternative” media. Mainstream and alternative stories are listed separately.

In answering, consider and write about the following,
Look at the extent to which the coup story was covered prominently or marginalized.
Look for the dominant point of view. It may be embedded in the assumptions that the mainstream stories make as compared to the assumptions that the alternative stories make.
Look for the angle, slant, bias or any negative/positive tone or words in the stories.
Specifically, consider the role of upper class elites in defining the “U.S. national interests” in a way to protect or promote their own corporate interests and gain public support.
