The Radical Enlightenment had a very negative view of revealed religion
The Radical Enlightenment had a very negative view of revealed religion (religion based on revelation). For example, Reimarus believed that the predictions of the second coming had been falsified by history (a view later reiterated by David F. Strauss in 1835); and Kant had a complete disregard for revealed religion (which he found full of superstitions and gross immoralities) and sought translate Christianity into a moral system, which we can get on our own through Reason (not revelation). Assess the critique of religion offered by EITHER Reimarus OR Kant (NOT BOTH). Is their critique of religion persuasive and why or why not? (For Strauss’ view you need to read the section on Strauss in Handout tn.).
