On the other hand, negative labels or derogatory language directed towards me had the power to chip away at my self-esteem and create doubts about my abilities. Whether it was being called by my name with respect or being subjected to hurtful stereotypes and prejudices based on my race, gender, or background, the words that others used to address me had a lasting impact on how I perceived my own worth and place in society.
