Hypothesis: Jay Gatsby was expressed as a victim of the consumerist ideal. He was corrupted by the culture of limitless wealth and commodities, under the impression that it would impress Daisy and eventually win her over. However, Gatsby failed to understand that his valiant efforts in impressing Daisy with his money cannot satisfy her, regardless of their past relationship because she belonged to a part of society that was rich from the start. Consequently, because of the failure of his American Dream, he died in a regretful and miserable state of mind who never acquired Daisy as his own lover.
