“The Grand Inquisitor”
What is the Grand Inquisitor’s way of dealing with the great mass of human beings? How does the Grand Inquisitor justify this way of dealing with the great mass of human beings? What is his view of human nature — does he find there to be essentially different kinds of human beings, different human natures, and what are they? What does he think Jesus got right and got wrong about human beings? What’s his view of Jesus, and why does it seem to you he changes his mind about what to do with Jesus? Is there any connection that you can make between the burning of Jesus he was planning and the burning of Jesus’ kiss in his heart? If you like, talk about what, if anything, you find plausible (or even convincing) in the Grand Inquisitor’s vision.
