You are highly advised not to use direct quotes from the book but rather paraphrase your points. The whole
point of the book review is that you summarize the author’s arguments in your own words. As a rule of thumb,
do not use the quotes. However, if it is absolutely necessary that you use the quote, limit it to no longer than
one line on the page. If you are using direct quotes from the book, please use appropriate citation and provide
page numbers for your quote. See the following example from the book review on Curtis Evans’ book titled
“The Conquest of Labor”:
Curtis Evans maintains that the wealthy elites of Prattville sought to start their own newspaper, yet appears that
the move was “met with wide approbation” by the Prattville constituents. (Evans, 55)
