To think critically. To communicate clearly, writing in a way that is fresh and engaging. ******************************************* To consult a minimum of six sources ****************************** Only half may be Internet--based (excluding journal articles). To demonstrate,in your final draft, that you know how to: conduct scholarly research, make effective use of information gleaned from research, integrate that information successfully into you-r writing, use quotations effectively and correctly in the body of the paper, and correctly Cite your sources. *************************************** Process: What are you curious about? Choose a visual--art--related topic. ******************************************** "My topic is about paul cezanne and one of the famous artwork " Still Life with a Curtain " Be adventurous and creative, yet also keep in mind the length, time frame, And scope of the project. ************ If possible, identify a research question. For example: What have been the biggest influences on Sally Mann in relation to the Imagery she chooses for her photographs? ********************************************* Your answer to this question may well be your thesis. ******************************************* Do some free writing : regarding everything you already know about your : topic (if anything). *************************************** Note any questions You have, and any particular facets of the topic that intrigue you. ************************************ Do some preliminary research : Academic reference books and on--line journal articles may give you ideas about what kinds of things are being (or have been) discussed in relation to your topic. ******************** Secure resources that may be helpful to you (you don’t have to read them all yet). Look at the tables of contents, headings, endnotes, and reference lists in books for other resources and related ideas. Aim to find primary sources, where possible. Set up a system for note taking : As you read through various materials,it is crucial not only to take notes, but to remember where you found your quotes and ideas. Some people take notes by hand on note cards; others use the computer. Tip: Keep a record of all identifying information related to each of your sources, including: Author(s), title, date, city and publisher, etc. Tip: When you copy and paste or write out specific notes,be sure you are clear about whether what you’ve written is your own idea, a paraphrase (your words, their idea) or a quote (their words, their idea). This is very important. *************************************** Consider cluster mapping : When you’ve gathered sufficient information regarding your topic, you may want to do a visual cluster map. ****************************************** For many, this helps in organizing ideas, seeing connections/patterns, and developing a thesis. **************************************** Some people write out their ideas on a white board, while others use sticky notes or a computer program. *************************************** Develop an informed hunch : Identify your thesis statement, if you haven’t yet. It doesn’t need to be fancy, but it does need to be a guiding principle, something that give your paper a sense of structure and purpose. For example, if your research question was: What have been the biggest influences on Sally Mann in relation to the imagery she chooses for her photographs? ********************************************* Your thesis may be something like: Sally Mann’s photographs are infused with the strong and sometimes conflicting needs for solitude and family togetherness. Or, Sally Mann’s photographs reveal her fascination with vulnerability and mortality. ************************************** If you already have a thesis, check to be sure that the information you’ve gleaned in your early research supports your thesis;it if doesn’t,you may need to make adjustments to your thesis. This is perfectly okay. Incubation : Sometimes it’s helpful to allow time for your ideas to incubate. ************************************* Take a day or so off.Do something else.Goof around.Let your mind wander. Delve deeper : Continue reading through your books, journals and other sources, and making notes.Think about how this new material relates to your thesis. Are you discovering key points of support? Is the material leading you in a new direction? Organize and categorize: Once you have sufficient information, you will want to review all of your notes and identify the best ones. You may want to revisit your cluster mapping and consider making an outline. Free write : Now that you’ve got all this new knowledge and you’ve reviewed and organized it, try free writing everything you know about your topic. This way you will stay relaxed and let the words flow; you can always “cut--and--paste--collage” it and revise the writing later. Polish up the writing : Be specific and concise. Aim to clearly guide the reader.Compose effective introductory sentences and smooth transitions.include a compelling final paragraph. *********************************** Tips: §? When you use quotes, choose wisely and use them sparingly. §? Set the quote off from the introducing sentence by using a colon. The period or other punctuation at the end of the quoted sentence should be inside the second quotation mark. §? Integrate your quote seamlessly with your own writing. “When you quote, always move on from the quotation and continue the paragraph by developing the idea the quotation initiates.” 1 §? If you copy and paste,or copy word--for--word whole phrases or sentences, you must place them in quotations and cite your source. §? If you use someone else’s ideas or a fact or body of information that is not considered common knowledge, you must cite your source. §? If you have doubts,be safe and cite your source. §? “If you consistently have more than two or three footnotes per typed page, then something is wrong—either you are acknowledging things you need not acknowledge or your argument is too dependent on outside sources.”2 *** You've got a start ....but I can't help but feeling like your struggling with just what to say about Cezanne and his work . many of you'r sentences are simply opinion that can not be supported with verifiable facts ( the goal of this paper is to support with assertions with facts gleaned from research and/or the sentences are simply too general and over-arching . ***Aim to be specific ***make your thesis clear in the first paragraph ,After reading the paper ,it seems that your thesis is something like : paul cezanne invested time , passion , focus and commitment in making his still life paintings. ( the reason that I think this is that you appear to mostly discuss his values , his approach , etc ,.. rather than anything having to do cubism ...... ***your paper would benefit from a clearer sense of organization and development of discussion . ***throughout the paper: be sure your capitalize main words in the title of the artwork and italicize it . ***You need you cite your source , especially when you use a direct quote . ***what so you mean about "founded"? he was certainly NOT the first artist to paint a still life , *** okay, the answer is your thesis ...usually the thesis is in the first paragraph, but NOT always . ***the second paragraph { still life depicts a subject .......} NOT related to your topic , unclear , "change it ". *** If you are going to single space the long quote , also indent it and remove the quotation marks, ( because the indent implies that it is a quote ). ***for quotes : I think it would be helpful for you to explain in your own words .in other words , develop and explore the points they make more fully . ***DONT REPAET WORDS *** ***CONFUSING , Picasso who is certainly considered a master, but NOT necessarily "present day ".why did Picasso feel this way ? Can you include some specifics? ***in third paragraph , your idea not fully develop , unclear , this seems like paraphrase *** in forth paragraph , many ambiguous things ....., everything are very general, more specifics , Number of still life paintings . ***in fifth paragrah { the creativity of Paul cezzane ......} , IM SO SORRY , its too general, more specific . *** your material need to have more scholarly depth , we don't know for certain about cezann's delight and pride unless we have recorded in his own words . ***put the footnote number next to the name , since it is a name ,not the quote that you are referring to below . *** your conclusion very nuclear, which works ? more clear and stronger . ***keep working on it *** PLACE THIS ORDER OR A SIMILAR ORDER WITH US TODAY AND GET AN AMAZING DISCOUNT :)
