THE APOSTLE PAUL

THREADED DISCUSSION: THE APOSTLE PAUL

Order Description

UNIT FOUR INTRODUCTION
In this unit of study, the matter of modeling will be discussed. As integral to the issue of Christian character is the issue of Christian witness, especially as
concerns pastoral ministry. Trask’s textbook, The Pentecostal Pastor: A Mandate for the 21st Century, addresses the character of the Lord’s servant, beginning on page
109 in this week’s assigned reading. The essence and image of the pastor’s personal relationship with Christ and his own understanding of ministry is critical to his
effective service to others.

Consequently, a look at the New Testament example of the Apostle Paul is helpful toward developing and living out the incarnational message of Jesus Christ to a
hurting world and parish. Our lecture for the unit, Paul’s Example of Pastoral Ministry, will offer you considerable insight for reflection and dialogue and assist you
towards the development of your own ministerial example to others.

4.2 THREADED DISCUSSION: THE APOSTLE PAUL

INTRODUCTION AND ALIGNMENT
This week’s lecture focuses on the ministry of the Apostle Paul. The Apostle Paul’s personal experience with Christ, his well-informed background in Judaeo-Graeco
culture, his personal calling into ministry (especially as a missionary), and his rich theological insights served well the institution and expansion of the early
church throughout the Middle Eastern world. Paul’s own narrative recounted by Luke in the Book of Acts, his letters to various churches, regions, and individuals
documented in the New Testament, and his specific instructions about important ecclesiastical affairs have provided the Body of Christ an invaluable point of reference
for ministerial consultation. This exercise should further help to inform your reflection paper, due by the end of the week.

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Review textbook reading and “Paul’s Example of Pastoral Ministry” lecture.
2. For your initial post:
a. Make a brief statement about your past week’s ministry. Inform your peers what’s happening
where you are (some of you are out of the country, in Europe, Indonesia, etc. and others in busy
cities, others rural settings). Tell us what’s going so we can celebrate with you!

b. Engage in a hearty discussion about the Apostle Paul. Intelligently describe his personality (to the
extent you can), his theology of ministry, and the significance of his influence in the early church.
Offer a few concluding statements that summarize how your knowledge of the Apostle and his
writings personally affects your ministry in the contemporary church.
