The idea of “The American Dream” plays an important role in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel, The Great Gatsby. To many, it is the notion that anyone in the United States can achieve success through hard work and live a successful, happy life. Write an essay about the American Dream. Consider the following questions as you write.

-How would you define “The American Dream”?
-Is it still alive and worth pursuing?
-Do you believe that many people are living it? Why or why not?
-Is it attainable to everyone? Why or why not??
-What obstacles do people face as they pursue “The American Dream”?
-What are your dreams for your own life? How will you reach them? Do you see any potential obstacles?
