Select a different book from the bulleted list below. Having read it, you will write a 4-5 page paper (double spaced, 12 pt. font, 1”
margins) about the book and its place in American history.
You may count on having about a page’s worth of introduction and conclusion. The introduction should include the name and author of the work you
have read, as well as a general statement about the work and its place in history. Don’t go into too much detail here. The conclusion should repeat the
author’s name and title and provide a general summing-up of the paper. The main body of the paper should be divided into three segments. The first
should be a descriptive section, wherein you describe the action taking place in the book. This need only be a basic summary, and no more than one
page of your paper should be given over to this section. The next section should provide the historical background of the work that you have read. Be
sure to mention any specific names or dates. This section should answer the questions: What have you learned about in this class that relates to your
selection? How does this work fit in to the history of the people that produced it? This should be the longest section of the paper, comprising at least
one page of the total. In the final section of the body of the paper you may provide your own opinions about the work you have read. Does it seem to
accomplish what the author intended? Did you particularly enjoy or dislike your selection and why? Does the work provide an accurate image of
history, or it is distorted in any way?
