Beginning Acting – text analysis

Verbs – Underline all action words

Unknowns – Circle and define any words, names, phrases or references that you don’t recognize or understand. Research to find out what they mean, and then record their definitions on a separate sheet of paper.

Images – Draw a box around any words or phrases that evoke a strong mental image for you. On a separate sheet of paper, describe or draw those images.

What is said about me? – On a separate sheet of paper, make a list of what other character(s) says about you and what you are doing

What is said about the other person? – On a separate sheet of paper, make a list of what you say about other character(s) and what they are doing

What is most important? – draw a star next to the word or phrase that is most important to your character every time it appears in the scene

Subtext – Are there any lines where you might mean something other than what you are saying aloud? If so, write out the subtext of such lines on a separate sheet of paper.

True or False? – If you are lying at any point in your scene, identify the lie on a separate sheet of paper and explain what the truth of the situation is and why you are lying.
