Taxing Ourselves

In three essays, students will address question(s) based primarily upon Economics of Social Issues 21st Edition, Taxing Ourselves 5th Edition and your Instructor's notes. The exam should be 7 to 8 total pages in length, with each essay a minimum of two pages in length, not counting the title and reference pages.

  • Using Slemrod & Bakija (2017) and Register and Grimes (2016) describe the current U.S. tax system relative to possible reform/alternatives. (2 pages)
  • Discuss the paradox of poverty amidst a wealthy country. How can economic growth decrease poverty? How can governments decrease poverty? (2 Pages)
  • Discuss the basic economics of monopoly, free trade, and economic growth. (2 Pages)
