Authentic Assessment Guidelines
A class that is taking an Earth Science course (similar to your course) has just gone over
the oxygen, carbon and nitrogen cycles. They are ready to review for their end of unit
exam, and need a game to help them. In this assignment, you will design a game to help
this class review for their exam. Create the game in a word processing document, slide
show, or build a physical game. Turn in your game documents or pictures of the physical
game, as well as your answer key.
Your review game can be any style: board game, jeopardy, etc. The game should review
information for all of the following objectives:
- Describe and illustrate Earth's oxygen cycle.
- Explain the significance of the oxygen cycle in supporting life on earth.
- Describe and illustrate Earth's carbon cycle, including how energy from the sun
drives Earth's carbon cycle. - Describe the different forms taken by carbon and the reservoirs where they are
found. - Give examples of carbon forms found on Earth.
- Describe and illustrate Earth's nitrogen cycle.
- Explain the role of microorganisms in Earth's nitrogen cycle.
- Explain the significance of the nitrogen cycle to life on Earth.
- Explain how the Haber-Bosch process has affected the natural nitrogen cycle.
