Systematic review and meta-analysis on randomized controlled trials of the effects of reminiscence therapy on dementia patients
Assess effects of reminiscence therapy as intervention for dementia patients.
Reminiscence Therapy is a widely known psychosocial and non-pharmacological intervention used in dementia patients. Reminiscence therapy is the discussion, with one person or in a group setting, or past events and early memories using a variety of tangibles to help assist with the memory recall (Haslam, 2010). These are used in the form of art, music, photos, and verbal discussions (Haslam, 2010). Evidence has shown reminiscence therapy is effective in improving cognitive function, depressive states, well-being, mood, and communication (Woods et al, 2005). This evidence is shown immediately after intervention and at follow-up (Woods et al, 2005).
