Establishment of a New Printing Company
The printing industry has experienced a drastic decline in the recent years, following the increased use of digital media as a substitution to print media. Consumers consider printing materials as time-consuming during their production and the distribution costs are a notch higher as compared to the digital media. Given this, the industry has declined over the past years and is set to continue declining further. Even so, it is still feasible for an entrepreneur to begin a new printing company while considering the prevailing situation and the open opportunities (Oxford Business Group, 2010). This paper will discuss why, how, and where of opening a new printing company and the media method that will guide the business.
Despite the problems the printing industry is facing, there are a myriad of factors for establishing a new company. The security and packaging printing emerge as the least affected area of printing given the increased use of digital products and media. The security printing involves the commercial printing of postage stamps and stock certificates. On the other hand, the packaging printing involves the printing of individualized packaging for various companies. Practically, these aspects of printing are not affected by digital media. Product packaging is important, since it portrays the personality of the product right before the customer achieves the real experience with the product. As such, the packaging printing presents another opportunity of starting a printing company. Additionally, the tight deadlines of security and packaging printing have led to the increased employment of novel technology in commercial printing, something that has heightened the revenue through digital printing. Regardless of its size, digital printing is growing in a rapid manner and is set to continue growing in the future (Moldvay, 2012). This serves as a major thrust into the starting of a new printing business.
The new printing business needs administration through a sound plan. First, the niche of the business in the printing industry has to be specified. It is impractical for a business to serve all the printing demands to all people. Given the prevailing circumstances, digital printing is the most preferred niche. Next, a thorough research on the competition has to be made, together with the equipment they use. This helps to gain a competitive advantage over the firms in the niche. Third, a research on the most appropriate, and affordable, equipment for the target market has to be determined, before creating a list of the products to be offered. To this point, the basic elements of the company have been considered, and the entrepreneur is ready to obtain, permits, certification and licenses, as required by the law. Finally, the requisite funds are secured, and the promotion of the business begins, through advertising on the website and local newspaper and sponsoring events (Butler, 2010). This procedure is important in establishing a printing business that is potent.
The location of the ne printing business is overly salient. Since the business is still new, it should be located near other established printing companies. The new business is engaged in the execution of work overflows for the established companies before they gain momentum in the market. This is made by the fact that the outsourcing of works is rampant in the printing industry. Moreover, the business ought to be located near non-profit organizations which will help in advertising the business after it volunteers its services to them. Non-profit organizations have many connections and are in desperate need of the printing services (Lautenslager, 2009). These organizations help in building a new business.
The printing business should adopt the digital method of media. The digitalization of the printing means that the text-based content is produced for a variety of media, through a single source. Besides, the printers undergo less small print runs, something that is economical. The digitalization of printing ensures that the print products are customized and printed even from an email, as well. The clients that require their packaging material to be printed have the option of sending the images and other details through email (Smits, 2014). By so doing, the new printing company stands to be profitable.
The printing business should adopt the agenda-setting theory of media. The news media have the power of influencing the public’s attention to a given issue. Apart from acquiring factual data from the news media, such as television and newspapers, readers and viewers also get to learn the importance of a given issue based on the emphasis devoted to the issue. For instance, large headlines and placing the issue on the first page cues the saliency of the matter to the reader. Similarly, opening stories in television news and their length devoted to such news cues about the importance of such news. Additionally, the day-to-day emphasis on such issues cements the saliency thereof to the reader. Consequently, the public makes opinions based on this emphasis of news media (McCombs, 2013). The new printing business will adopt this media method in its introduction into the market. The advertisements on newspapers can cover one whole page, and the advertisements of television need more time. By so doing, the public can be prompted to create a positive opinion about the novel printing company and hence place orders. Within a considerably short period of applying this media method, the growth of the new company is anticipated to be rapid and immediate.

The team should ensure that the work done is daily recorded into the daily product report to ensure that there is accuracy in the production and that the production process is nonstop. Technology is vital in the process of production. Finance should be put into the production process to ensure a continuous flow of products. Human labor should also get counted as a resource. The table above attempts to monitor the production cost in relation to the original estimate made. For example, the amounts stated whose units are dollars; represent the amount spent on the different production costs. We assume that this company opens in January. The costs for February, march and the other months will also be stated there hence it will be easy to monitor the production costs in relation to the estimated amount that we previously had for January.
This table helps the company in monitoring and controlling its costs hence leading to a well-controlled budget. The company owners can easily predict their costs in case they decided to increase their scale of production. Monitoring costs should be done to prevent the wastage of resources of the company that would lead to its dissolution especially because of the nature of the product produced. The company will be able to make financial decisions based on their findings from the continuous monitoring done.
The market is more saturated with the digital media hence reducing the entry of new companies using the old technology i.e. print media. The customers also prefer digital media to print media. Never the less, some services can only be done by use the old technology such as emergency services and packaging printing. It has led to the print media advertisement losing a lot of prospective customers.
The print market is also saturated with old timers, making it difficult for the new firms to join in. The older advertisers are more trusted and getting customers to the new firm becomes very difficult.
For the new printing business, it would be best to start by using new technology to attract customers. Print marketing; done by use of activities such as making of appealing headlines, or those that masses would be most interested.
MANAGEMENT PLAN
The new print media should be well manned to make sure maximum productivity gets achieved. It should be well organized. In our case, the new print media seem to be well organized as there is acquisition of required documents, following of procedures, and others that explain and prove to us that this media is well-organized. The location is also strategically selected, and the intended moves are very well calculated.
Staffing involves management of employees. The employees are all aware of their roles hence the print media is expected to run smoothly. The print media have good facilities as it has tried to employ some form of better technology than the other printing companies. The schedule is organized and planned hence leading to the company being promising to their prospective customers.
