Suitability of Assessment Critique Order Description 323 SAM Critique of Health Education Resource Directions: You will critique one printed or multi media health education resource from your workplace, a community agency, a doctor’s office, etc. You will use the SAM (Suitability Assessment of Materials) Method provided to complete the critique. The educational resource you choose should be approved by your instructor by week 2. It is recommended that you choose something about 1 page in length or a pamphlet with few illustrations. This should not be the same material used for the FRY readability test. (scan & email or provide the link via email) Use the Suitability of Assessment Materials (SAM) Method for the critique. Read all instructions, guidelines and resources for evaluation criteria using the SAM method. Complete the scoring sheet (copy provided on next page). You may document the scores directly on this sheet. After evaluating all factors, compute Total SAM score, Total Possible Score, and Percent Score (bottom of scoring sheet). Following completion of the SAM scoring sheet evaluation, complete the following support items typed on a separate word document for submission: Introduction: The title, subject, intended audience, and source (such as American Heart Association) of the educational material evaluated, and the purpose and content of the critique. The interpretation of the SAM Percentage rating for the material. This should include the following: Content Literacy Demand Graphics Layout and Typography Learning Stimulation, Motivation Cultural Appropriateness (including audience health literacy and readability) Provide comment as to why any factor did not receive a “2” score and include appropriate recommendations for revisions to improve material with rationales. This content must be clearly labeled. (Example: 3b.
