Textbook: DeSpelder, L.A. & Strictland, A.L. (2015). The Last Dance: Encountering Death & Dying, (10th ed.). McGraw-Hill Education.
Choose one chapter from the textbook that is most interesting to you and write a summary. A summary is condensed version of the chapter using your own words to briefly express the main idea and relevant details of the piece. 1. What was the chapter about? Identify the title, author and source of the chapter. (Be sure to read the bold headings and opening paragraphs for the main ideas.) 2. What did the author want to communicate? (Always read the introductory paragraph thoughtfully and look for a thesis statement. Finding the thesis statement is like finding a key to a locked door. Use any hints that may shed light on the meaning of the piece.) 3. Select one topic in the chapter that interests you most and write in depth about it. Be sure to site a reference, outside of the textbook, that you have used to do further research into this topic. 3. What is your opinion of this chapter and its topic? a. Did you learn something new? b. Do you agree or disagree with the thesis? (It is not enough to say you liked it. You must make a good argument as to why you liked it.) c. Did the author leave anything out you were expecting? What can you add? d. Why is this topic important to others in the field of psychology? 4. What is your personal experience of this topic? Why did you choose this chapter? (Explain in as much detail as possible.)
