Stroop Experiment Research

Description

Some guidelines for the Results section (17 pts)The Results section should be between 2 and 3 pages long, maybe longer depending on what analytical questions you address. The paper should be typewritten in APA format. Your Results section should (at a minimum) address the following points:
(1) If you did not describe the design of the Stroop experiment in the Methods section, you must do so here. (2) What alpha level will you use in order to reject the null hypothesis?
(3) For Conguence, is the mean response time greater in the congruent condition or the incongruent condition?
(4) For Task, is the mean response time greater in the “name the word” or “name the ink color” condition?
(5) For the interaction of Congruence and Task, does the difference between congruent and incongruent change as the task changes?
Be sure to support your description of the results by including the appropriate means and statistical tests. For example, in answer to the third question, you should include the marginal means (collapsed across Task) for each level of congruence. You should also report the results of the t-test used to determine whether that result was significant. You should also report the effect size. Please remember to characterize the effect size for reader in a manner consistent with your book. The same is true when you answer the fourth question. When you report the differences in order to answer (5), you should also report the appropriate cell means and the SD for those cell means. For example, "In the “name the word” task, the difference between the Congruent condition (M = X.X, SD = X.X) and the Incongruent condition (M = X.X, SD = X.X) was X.X." You should also report the results of the t-test used to determine whether that result was significant. In addition, give a concise statement, in APA format, of the outcome of the ANOVA test for the 2-way interaction. Be sure to include the following: the F-score calculated, the degrees of freedom for the statistical test, and whether the obtained p-value was greater or less than your chosen significance level. Repeat all of the above (except questions #1 and #2) for the accuracy results. You should have at least one appropriately labelled table (in APA format, of course) that summarizes the results. If you use one table, it should have both the response time data and the accuracy data. Alternatively, it is also permissible to use two tables, one for response times and one for accuracy. Finally, if you are able to generate figures for the results, you can use figures instead of tables or in addition to tables.
2) Your TA will give you examples from published papers of how to write a Results section in APA style. However, it will be up to you to write a Results section for the Stroop experiment that we did in this lab. Remember, as an empiricist, you are trying to make an argument – based on the data that you have collected – for the ideas that you presented in the introduction. The data – the Results section – is the evidence you are presenting in support of those ideas. As always, it will be up to you to find a way to communicate in your own words the results of the experiment to the reader in clear, precise, and accurate manner. If that means that this attempt – probably your first attempt – at a Results section is a little on the wordy side, that’s okay. Better that than plagiarizing. Over time (i.e., between now and the final paper) and with feedback from your TA, you will learn how to be more concise. The References section (3 pts)Any article cited in the body of your paper should be included in the References section. All articles cited in the body of your paper should be in the References section and there should not be any references in your References section that are not in the body of your paper. You should have cited at least four articles in your first draft of the Introduction section. Your full manuscript will include 7-12 references. Each reference listed in the References section should be in APA format and the order of the references in the References section should be set according to APA format.
