II. Please take one HSK and one TOCFL paper sample tests. Nonnative speakers, please choose the HSK
and TOCFL sample tests according to your self-estimated proficiency level of Chinese.
III. Please write a report (1-2 pages)

  1. Please compare the similarities and differences among the two tests.
  2. Can each of these two tests provide a good assessment of a CFL learner’s “proficiency”?
  3. Since these tests are claimed to be “standard,” they are supposed to provide consistent and sensitive
results, meaning students of the same language proficiency level will receive similar scores and students of
different proficiency level will receive different scores, regardless of the textbooks that they used. Does your
experience taking the tests support this claim?
  4. How can these tests be improved?
