In Geroski chapter 6, we learn that when people make changes in their lives they go through a similar series of stages or steps in their change process. As stated in the chapter, whether someone was quitting smoking, involved in outpatient psychotherapy, or struggling with alcohol addiction the same stages of change applied to each situation. The idea behind it is that people go through change as a process over time. For this week's discussion post you will be describing a time you went through the stages of change.
- Main Post
For your main post you will think about a recent time when you went through the stages of change. You will then write a post describing the situation using information from the text to support your response. Make sure to apply each step to your situation. After you have described your situation answer the following questions:
Were any of the steps particularly challenging for you? Why or why not?
Now that you know about the stages of change, how can this help you in the future, particularly with regards to being a helping professional?
