Special Occasion Speech
Assignment:
You are to give a 4-5 minute speech which celebrating some person, place, project, idea, etc. Anything is fair game here. Keep in mind that your task is to celebrate your chosen topic, to convince the audience that your topic is worthy of consideration or appreciation. Your speech must be 4-5 minutes in length. Also, pay attention to your preparation outline format.

This outline must be typed, double spaced in 12 point font.
You must use at least 2 sources of information (other than your own personal knowledge). Sources need to be credible and verifiable. You need to have a “Works Cited” page attached to your outline completed in correct APA style. For each source, please include a one sentence validation statement. Why did you choose this source as a credible source?

You will need to include at least two sources of information (other than your own personal knowledge) are required. Please include complete bibliographic information in APA source page format including a source validation statement for each source used.
Outline:
You will need to complete a typed, double-spaced, 12 font, full-sentence preparation outline for this speech due to me prior to delivery of your speech. You may speak from this outline or from speaking notes, please don't read your speech!
Evaluation:
The primary focus of this assignment is language use and style. The occasion fit, organization, and delivery also contribute to your overall grade. Specifically,
Language: Does the speaker use a creative approach to the topic? Does the speaker artistically employ linguistic devices? Are the verbal descriptions vivid and compelling?
Occasion: Does the speech appropriate meet the expectations of the occasion for which it's prepared.
Organization and Structure: While this type of speaking is less formally structured, the organization is still present. Does the speech still flow with transitions and appropriate cues for the audience to follow along? Is there a meaningful beginning and end?
Delivery: Is the speaker’s delivery appropriate to the overall effect of the message? Do nonverbal cues add to the commemorative nature of the speech? Are they descriptive or illustrative?
Outline/Speaking Notes: Does the outline meet assignment requirements? Does the outline/speaking notes serve as a useful tool for presenting as evidenced during the speech?
