Sociology

The goal for you as students in this course is: STEP 1) DO NOT BE AFRAID OF WHAT YOU SEE ( a
disclaimer!). There appears no risk (IRB) only a call for change. The students of LASC presented this study to
the LASC campus of district leaders, staff, faculty and students. The student's used this as a students call to
appeal; they are just like you, beginning Sociology students who ran with the opportunity to do a study. This
was a challenge and should resignate with others to witness what student's are doing; pre COVID, pre BLACK
LIVES MATTER etc.
TAKE NOTES: STEP 2) There is ALOT of Symbolic meaning here (Symbolic interaction)/Structural
Functionalist; what appears to be (trying to be?), and Social conflict - Can you identify which? These questions
will be asked later in the discussion session of student-to-student learning activity.
STEP 3). At the end of observing this study, a: do you recognize any distinct similarities and differences; local
and globally from this study and your own? and, b: if you do can you explain in your own lives similarities and
differences? Since your local and geographic area might be different, but may share a similar history what do
you see that is same or different?
For this midterm, you will write in no more than 250 words your responses to Step 1, Step 2 and Step 3; how
you identify, how you recognize…remember utilizing the theoretical perspectives.
