Instruction set

You will write instructions in your job, if you only leave notes when you go on vacation. Writing effective instructions can be challenging. In this project, you will

practice writing an instruction set, high-end design and usability testing.
The Rhetorical Situation
Context
Genre: Instruction set.
Social, historical, and political: Dependent on subject, though appropriate for a glossy magazine.
Program: Preferably PDF, though MS Word is acceptable.
Audience
This project is the only one where you get to choose your audience. Choose a specific audience in a specific age range that does not include UCCS students. For

example: Girls 6-10 or Adults 60-70.
Subject
Your choice; however, you must have approval for your topic and your audience.
Purpose
To walk someone from a specific audience through a process efficiently and effectively.
Objectives
This project will address the following course objectives:
Understand and meet the needs of the readers/users/viewers, responding appropriately and ethically to different rhetorical situations
Evaluate and use appropriate strategies for production, revision, editing, proofreading, and presenting technical information
Control such features as tone, syntax, grammar, punctuation, and spelling while identifying the main features and uses of writing in a specific field
Critically and ethically choose from a variety of technologies in order to address specific rhetorical situations and a range of readers/users/viewers needs
Engage in a critical perspective of technology, its uses and contexts
Deliverables
A single document containing an instruction set that can be performed in the classroom. In all, have 10-15 steps (can be made from more than one process, sub-steps are

allowed). Follow the formal structure provided (title, intro, parts list, etc.) Avoid any form of plagerism.
Design
Design should be appropriate for a high-end, glossy magazine. There is no limit on pages, but place more than one step on a page. Use images and graphics, but make

sure you cite them even if they are clip art or you created them.

Success
A successful instruction set will:
Respond to the rhetorical situation
Consider any contextual concerns
Appeal to the audience
Stay on topic with the appropriate scope
Succeed in its purpose
Information should be well organized
Contain interesting, smooth flowing, concise and grammatically correct writing
Be visually appealing and appropriate for a high-end, glossy magazine
Meet the required number of steps
Follow all conventional moves
Avoid any form of plagiarism
Cite all graphics
