School dynamics within districts

The Ewing excerpt, the EducationWeek article, & the SelectED documentary all discuss school dynamics within districts—with some schools deemed failing, while others flourish & receive thousands of student applications for very few spots. Reflecting on information from these sources, respond to the following questions:

A. What criteria do you think should be used to determine whether a school is ‘failing’, or if it should be closed? Who should determine what those criteria are?

B. What criteria do you think should be used to determine whether a student should be admitted to an elite public high school? Do you think that these schools provide opportunities to disrupt inequality, or do they perpetuate it?
