Rules for writing your essay

• You must write your essay using Calibri or Times New Roman font 12
• You must double-space your essay x2
• You must not underline anything in your essay.
• In the Header you must write A SHORT TITLE IN CAPITALS, your ID number and first two names & Your COL Course-Section Number (as shown above)
• You must write automatic page numbers in the center of the footer
• You must indent every paragraph with a tab
• Use yellow highlighter for your full title, your thesis statement, your topic sentences and concluding sentences of each paragraph
• c) Use numbers and headings as they are used in the sample essay

You must write the Introduction
You may have some in-text citations here. You must write full background information and any definitions here. You really need to explain the importance of your thesis, argument or position. You must write a good thesis statement at the end of the introduction, which shows the supporting sections.

You must write Supporting Paragraphs in Favor of the Position
You will have some in-text citations here. You will need some short quotes with exact words if the quotes are really memorable. You will need some paraphrases or summaries so that you can explain your own ideas, position, thesis or argument well. You could also include examples and explanations to develop your ideas and make them clear.

You must write a Word Count after Supporting Paragraphs in Favor of the Position
You must then add a page break

You must write the References List in APA Format (see example)
You must write 8 references in the references list
All references should be double-spaced.
Do not leave blank lines between references.
Sort your references A to Z. Highlight your references, go to A->Z ascending and press OK.
You must write all references with hanging indents like this. Go to FORMAT -> PARAGRAPH -> SPECIAL -> choose HANGING -> OK.
