Arthropods have influenced human culture and society in many ways. We have created children’s stories, place names, automobile brands, and horror movies with arthropod names. Arthropods can be presented in a negative way (Arachnophobia the movie) or in a positive light (Very Hungry Caterpillar Children’s book) or as neutral (Bugtussle, Oklahoma). I want you to find five examples of arthropod cultural influence and write a 2-page essay (plus one-page to cite sources and with your examples if they are visual) The purpose of this essay is to gain perspective on your views of arthropods as influenced by human culture. Tell me if each example was positive, negative or neutral and if your views on arthropods influenced by your exposure to arthropods in culture. You may focus on the broad implications you developed through the five examples you picked, or you may focus on a single example and explore (in a literary sense) what entries in this example have to say about perspectives towards arthropods.
