Research Report on Digital Disruptions
Produce a research report on the operations of a particular media sector for an inquiry into Digital Disruption (a sector here might be a particular kind of service e.g, commercial TV, subscription (pay-Tv), book (and ebook) publishing, news channels or newspapers, video on demand, public service media, search, games, and social media). You are to address the following two questions in regard to the ways in which ongoing digital disruptions are reconfiguring the sector: How is your chosen sector responding to the challenges and opportunities of digital distribution (platforms and platformisation) to create value for its various stakeholders? (Example stakeholders would be: users/consumers; advertisers; content producers; third party developers; intellectual property holders; parent companies; governments and public institutions.) How should we weigh the implications of changing digital distribution strategies (platforms and platformisation) in terms of their public, political, economic, or cultural/aesthetic consequences? Choose a combination of these consequences for analysis (minimum 2). How is this sector undergoing changes in its geographical focus and reach? Your analysis is to be prepared for readers who are familiar with the media industries but do not have expertise in any one sector. Write in clear, ordinary English. Be straightforward when explaining key concepts and issues. Use concrete examples to illustrate your points. You will be expected to set this out in a research report form the templates for which will be available in Blackboard. Criteria & Marking: There are 4 assessment criteria each worth 10 marks each (total 40%). As this will involve 'micro' calculations we have expressed the overall mark as out of 40. Consequently each criterion will be marked out of 20, and then converted to mark out of 10, for a total of 40 marks.
