Hamilton, the musical – this musical about the life and political career of Alexander Hamilton created a cultural
sensation several years ago when it premiered on Broadway. It remains both popular and culturally important.
Tell us about it, and particularly reflect on why we like to look at an American founder through the lens of hip
hop culture.
Project:
This project will consist of picking, researching an analyzing a literary term, author, or historical connection in a
five minute oral presentation. (I will of course do the oral presentation but need the material) You will be
expected to use three (or more) research sources in your project, which should be mentioned in the
presentation and documented in a References list in MLA style. You will also create a handout to accompany
your presentation. ( I will complete the oral video portion on the assignment but I need research and
information on the topic.)
Additional Info:
In this presentation, you will be explaining, analyzing, and contextualizing a term related to our course.
Begin with a clear and concise explanation of your term and how it relates to our course. Then, you can devote
some time to explaining why the term is important and providing lots of detailed information about it. Your goal
is to inform your audience (your classmates and me) about the term, with particular emphasis on how it
connects to the literature we have read or will read in the class.
Provide a conclusion that signals the end. You can say things like “in conclusion” or “in summary.” A good
strategy for the very last line of your presentation is to ask the audience if there are any questions.
Research is an important aspect of this assignment. Although you may find many potential sources, you must
use at least three academic-caliber research sources. (This means sources which are published in an
academic publications or web sites which have been peer-reviewed. While Wikipedia or SparkNotes may help
you grasp basic information about the literary texts or these related terms, these types of sources are not
appropriate for college-level research, and you may not use them for this project). You should document your
sources, just as you would in an written assignment, in a Works Cited page in MLA style. You can incorporate
this information into your video or attach a Works Cited page separately
