Research Paper: Michelangelo and his
You are required to write a research papers of (2,500-3,500 words) (body) in which you analyze a work (or up
to three works) of art, include music, art, or literature from the time period studied. (Anyone taking the AP
literature test should do the paper on a book from the AP reading list.) You must include:
- A brief description of the work(s) of art,
- Basic information of the artist and he circumstances under which the work was created,
- A discussion of its organization or structure,
- An overview of any aspects of the work that are unique or original for the time it is created ,
- An explanation how the creative work represents or differs from the basic values, ideas, and styles of the
period it is created in, - An identification of any symbols suggested in the work along with what you or your source think the symbols
mean, - A critique of specifically what you like or dislike about the work.
- Supporting direct quotes are needed to give authority to statements.
- All the sources should be cited at the bottom of the page.
The paper should be printed and should follow correct MLA style with proper documentation. You must have a
minimum of 5 sources, with at least 1 non-internet sources. (Blooms literature data base counts as a noninternet source)
The paper should also be written in a logical manner with a clear introductory paragraph in which you establish
the work you are going to evaluate and your evaluation of the overall quality and significance of the work. The
paragraph should end with a clear, focused thesis statement.
The conclusion paragraph basically re-states the introduction, giving your final evaluation of the work of art and
how you personally have been affected (if relevant) by your study of the work.

I will share the MLA sample paper used for the regular senior class for a sample of correct formatting.
Important information for any literary analysis: This literature database will probably give you most if not all of
the needed sources for an analysis of a literary work.
Here is the url for the literature data base which is an excellent resource for all literature:
