Page 1: RESEARCH EXERCISES Select a topic of interest to you. (If you are currently working on an essay for one of your other courses, you may use that essay’s topic, if your instructor approves.)

  1. List five periodicals that are likely to contain information relevant to your topic.
  2. Look up your topic in a reference book—in print or online—that includes bibliographies at the end of its entries. Then look up and record the call number of one of the books mentioned in the bibliography. Find the book in the stacks. Read the first chapter of that book, and write a brief summary of its contents.
  3. Find on the Internet a source of information relevant to your topic. Write a brief summary of its contents.
