QUESTION;
Ontological shock (discussed in Chapter 2) is something that shakes us to the very core of our being, thus forcing us to call into question our cherished worldview or interpretations of our experiences. When we experience ontological shock, the worldview we once took for granted is displaced, thereby forcing us to reanalyze our old assumptions.
Relate the notion of ontological shock to a time when your own personal worldview was shaken. How did you respond to the shock? Did it make you morally sensitive and more likely to act upon your moral beliefs? If you have never experienced ontological shock, think of something that would cause you to experience it and describe your reaction.
POST;
I have not had ontological shock however, an example that I have read was when we had the attack on Twin Towers 9/11 in New York. I never thought that we would have to experience the bombings and the death here in the U.S. from Muslim Americans. I then did have to shift my world views a notch because I had to realize that we can get threats and bombed. I had a sore feeling about the people who did this attack I have to say. My response would be that after a period of time I had to come to realize that it could be anybody who did the terror. The worldview that I did see was soon changed after that 9/11 attack in such away that we can and will be threaten and bombed and it could be from any group of people. I was morally sensitive to what happened but I did not act on it. We are strong people and we stay strong.
