Readings analysis

“The ‘Pavonato,’” by Marc Frank; “A Theory of Regguetón,” by Iván de la Nuez; “Obama and Us,” by Rafael
Hernández; ‘Visit Cuba Before It Changes!’,” by Louis Pérez Jr.; and “‘El Paquete’: Internet in Cuba,” by Victor
Fowler.
Online Discussion 2: Review these readings carefully and choose three about which you’ll write paragraphs (5-
6 sentences). Comment on the key sources of tension you see, moving into the early twenty-first century. What
issues/topics seem new? Which seem to continue from the past, perhaps with new variations? What simply
captures your attention? As you write, please pay special attention to the end of the editors’ overview you read
last time (577-9), where they raise questions about foreign
perceptions of “Cuban culture,” as well as addressing at least two of these other readings in detail, so that we
can refer to interesting moments in-class discussion.
