Racism, stereotyping, and discrimination
Topic 1: Explain the effects of racism, stereotyping, and discrimination in teaching and learning of ELLs from diverse backgrounds and at varying
Topic 2: identify the major theories of first and second language acquisition that inform classroom practices and which serve as platform to compare L1 and L2 literacy.
Topic 3: Determine current and past theories and research in second language acquisition and bilingualism (and factors the influence its development) as applied to ELL’s from diverse backgrounds and at varying English proficiency levels (refer to sheltered and/or inclusion models)
Topic 4: Determine factors that affect Elis’ learning of English, including psychological, social, cultural, and political factors, as well as how the use of home language serves as a foundation for learning English.
