Public Writing

After reading Carolina Souto’s essay “College Education Negatively Affected by Consumerism” (Saba 383-
384) and Shields' "Protect Workers Making iPhones in Chinese Markets" (Saba 389-390), write your own
essay (3 paragraphs minimum) responding to either Souto or Shields' ideas.
Your initial post should briefly summarize the author's argument (claim) and then state whether you agree or
disagree with his or her point(s). Support your position with examples from your own experience, published
articles, and the media (movies, books, television shows, recent news stories, etc.).
Don't forget to include the author's name and the title of the articles. If you refer to the author's ideas or use
any of his or her words, you will need to include a proper MLA citation and work cited page. Otherwise, it is
considered plagiarism.
Initial post due by Wednesday at 11:59 p.m.
Reply to a minimum of two classmates. Replies should be a minimum of one well-developed paragraph. Use
these questions to help guide your replies in the discussion:
What do you agree with? What do you disagree with? Why?
What unique insights or connections does the writer draw attention to?
What questions does the writer leave unanswered? (What about…?)
