Public Policy Analysis & Critique Guideline

The primary purpose of this assignment is to provide the opportunity to explore, analyze and critique an existing healthy public policy selected by the group relevant to population health. “Public policy” refers to “a strategic action led by a public authority in order to limit or increase the presence of certain phenomena within the population” (National Collaborating Centre for Healthy Public Policy [NCCHPP], 2012).
The National Collaborating Center for Healthy Public Policy September 2012, briefing note, http://www.ncchpp.ca/docs/Guide_framework_analyzing_policies_En.pdf A framework for analyzing public policies: Practical guide, provides a framework that will guide you to analysis and critique. You will reading this framework article and understanding it before starting the assignment. The critique has to be according to those 7 frameworks principles mentioned in the article above. I attach this article titled "guide_framework_analyzing_policies" If you need help locating the policy you will be analyzing, I am also attaching the regulation of the policy you will be analyzing. I will also attach couple of articles including Alberta health services position on fluoride titled “Water-Fluoridation-Position-Statement-2017” and one other articles titled “Community_Water_Fluoridation” to help you support the analysis for references and in-text-citation. Please look for couple more articles to back up the analysis.
Process: For this assignment each small group will:
• Review the National Collaborating Center for Health Public Policy briefing note to understand the seven dimensions for analysis presented as part of the framework. You need to understand those frameworks and article before starting the assignment.
• The Policy you will be writing on is “Fluoride in water” in Alberta: Provincial policy. Your position will be that we should keep fluoride in water as there are lots of resrources to back it up. You will back your position with scholarly peer reviewed articles. I will attach some of them to help you out.
• Apply the National Collaborating Center framework in analyzing and critiquing the “Fluoride in water” policy and then addressing the seven dimensions of analysis (Effectiveness, Unintended effects, Equity, Estimated Cost, Feasibility, Acceptability and Durability) in relation to the existing public policy selected. The degree to which each of these dimensions can be explored will vary in relation to the policy selected and the information available on the policy. Cost for example may be very limited in analysis if there is limited research available for this dimension. Analysis often includes consideration of policies in jurisdictions outside of the policy the group is considering in supporting or refuting effectiveness. Include the financial side in the analysis.
• Write a scholarly paper of approximately 6 pages just analyzing and critiquing the policy. Do not need Introduction and Conclusion. (excluding title and reference page) 4
• Do not fake reference or in text citation. If any question, please ask. Please write pg. number in the in-text citations.
• The critique will include the analysis and critique of the seven dimensions
