Project Scope Management

Following the reading of chapter 5 and review of the PowerPoint file provided in the course
resources, answer the following questions:
5a1. You are asked to manage a project for a business organization. The project entails
updating the existing ID cards for all active employees to a new biometric
based ID card.
Prepare a preliminary scope statement for this project.

5a2. How would you collect requirements for a project? Why is it often such a difficult

task?

5a3. Create a project management charter (i.e. see examples in the book, remember

to include all the sections.),

5a4. Propose how to validate the scope for the project above.
5b. Using examples in this book or online, describe a project that suffered from scope
creep. Do you feel that it could it have been avoided? How? Can scope creep be a
good thing? When? What can organizations do to successfully manage inevitable
changes in scope that are good for business?

5c. List and briefly describe in your own words five approaches for creating work
breakdown structures. How does a project manager know which approach to
select?
