Project Management for Information Technology

Critically discuss whether inadequate people management is the principal cause of failure in Information Technology Project Management. Use one or more Information Technology projects with which you are familiar (either case studies or from personal experience), to illustrate your answer.

Your essay should begin with an introduction and end with a conclusion. The introduction should outline the key conceptual parameters of your discussion and a summary of the case company, emphasising its degree of maturity in the use of information systems and project management. You must provide a comprehensive description of the focal project. If you want to provide an extended introduction to the project that you are describing then use an appendix, this is not necessary if you are referring to a case study in the literature or module text.
You should draw on appropriate theoretical material throughout to support and justify each aspect of your answer. For example, Section 4 of the course module text introduces Project Monitoring and Reporting, whilst Section 10 introduces IT Project Failure.
You must also draw on academic literature that discusses the underlying causes of failure that you identify. You have access to many related journals, including: International Journal of Project Management, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Project Management Journal and Journal of Systems and Software.
