Professional Organization Paper on the American Nurses Association

The purpose of joining a professional organization is to better understand what professional organizations have
to offer Registered Nurses, such as membership benefits, legislative updates, certification processes, research
programs, scientific advances, diversity programs, relevant legislative activities, and general nursing resources.
Students are to research a professional organization. A paper will be submitted as an attachment through the
Blackboard system. This paper should be 4-5 pages (including title and reference pages), doubled spaced,
typed, following APA format (7th ed.). Do not “copy and paste” from a website. The paper will be graded by
faculty utilizing the following criteria:
Content Points

1. Name, mission/purpose, and history of the
   organization 25 points
2. Cost of membership and payment plans, if 25 points are applicable. Include the location of headquarters,
   names and titles of key players in the organization’s leadership
3. Benefits of membership 25 points
4. List of publications sponsored by the organization 25 points
5. A description of areas of practice of nurses (or others) 25 points who may benefit from membership in the
   organization
6. An analysis of how membership in this organization will 25 points personally impact your nursing practice.
