Prison work

A constant problem for correctional facilities is the recruitment, training, and retention of employees. In the correctional system it is hard to hire and keep qualified personnel. The book identified several factors that contribute to this problem, such as pay, level of education, administrative stressors, etc.
This week, I'd like you to share your thoughts about what management and staff could do to make prison work more rewarding.
How could they recruit more effectively?
Are there any general hiring standards that you think should change (either stricter or more lenient) in order to qualify for the job?
What incentives could be offered to improve retention rates
