Order Description
1. Choose one topic from the list of topics in the stage 4/5 syllabus of your subject area.
Within this topic, select an outcome that involves writing (implicit or explicit). Construct
a written assessment task for you students based on the outline, e.g. a writing task for your
students where you can assess this outcome.
2. Identify the skills and knowledge students need to complete your writing task.
3. Following the teaching and learning cycle, design a set of teaching steps (an overview of
your unit of work) that describes what you would do in the classroom to ensure all students
have the required knowledge to write the task.
4. Design three interactive and relevant tasks which could be taught to consolidate the
language and conceptual understandings in this unit.
a) The first task is a pairwork/information gap activity that involves students having to share
information to complete the task. You must have student hand-outs for this activity.
b) The second task is a group work activity (i.e. more than two but not whole-class) which
encourages student talk and interaction.
c) The third task focus on activating or consolidating key vocabulary needed for one part
of the unit. This task could be teacher centred, individual, whole class or group-based - or a
combination of these. Where you have student handouts please design, prepare and submit
these. You must have handouts for task 1 but handouts for the following two are optional.
