Organizational processes related to mandatory reporting

Use the CNUR 860 Major STATS assignment database and study abstract for this assignment.
Each question is worth a total of 10 marks for a total of 30 marks for this assignment. The distribution of marks is similar to the distribution on your mini stats assignments:
For each of the following three research scenarios, answer the research questions by conducting the requested analyses:

a) descriptive stats = 4 marks (2 marks per variable)
Include in the descriptive analyses, all outputs, with legends as required and discuss findings of descriptives (4 marks: 2 mark per variable).

b) inferential = 4 marks all steps of the hypothesis test are worth .25;
except statement of the null and research hypotheses are worth .1 each.
selection of the correct statistical test is weighted more heavily (2.0 marks).
If you choose the incorrect test you will loose marks for this however, you will be credited marks for correct decisions made for an incorrect test. e.g If you do the wrong test, a deduction of -2.0 applies; however, you are credited for correct hypothesis testing decisions based upon results you provided. 2

c) critical interpretation of the findings and limitations and discussion of implications for
practice and research = 2 marks (1.5 for critical interpretation of your findings,.5 for practice implications and for research implications (the critical interpretation and implications are to include a discussion of any of the demographic data that you have analyzed in previous assignments: e.g. age, gender, etc as the data may be relevant to your interpretation of findings)

Research Question 1. (10 marks)

Previous reports suggest that incivility may be a mitigating factor in the prevalence and incidence of violence in the workplace. Evidence also indicates that health care personnel are not always willing to report incidences of workplace violence, especially incidences of incivility. In order to evaluate the BPG recommendations:

“Follow organizational processes related to mandatory reporting, seeking support and providing support to others when potentially violent situations are identified or violent situations occur.”

and

“Nature of mitigating factors influencing violence in the workplace including incivility experienced by nurses and other health-care workers, nursing students and educators in academic and clinical practice settings.”

The researchers asked staff to complete two questionnaires. One scale measured their willingness to report incivility as 0 = not willing, 1 = somewhat willing or 2 = willing. The second scale, from 0-5, with equal distances between the scale points, asked participants to rate their belief that incivility among health care professionals contributes to workplace violence on a scale

The researchers asked the question:

Do health care professionals who are willing to report incidences of incivility in the workplace have a higher belief that incivility is a mitigating factor in workplace violence as compared to those who are either unwilling to report or somewhat willing to report?

Research Question 2. (10 marks)
Recommendation 7 c. states that “all employees, physicians, volunteers and students:
Practice and collaborate with team members in a manner that fosters respect, trust and prevents violence.” 3

The researchers wanted to know if there is a relationship between staff perception of trust and respect amongst colleagues and their job satisfaction as measured by their intent to remain in their current employment for 1 year.

Research Question 3. (10 marks)

In order to support the recommendation:
‘Engage in self-reflective practice and examine how one's behavior impacts others and how the behavior of others impacts them’
the institution offered a two-hour seminar and exercise on self-reflective practice to any of the 55 staff in this study who were interested.
They wanted to know if a self-reflective practice seminar and exercise would positively influence staff’s understanding of the role inter-personal behavior as mitigating and mediating factors for workplace violence. Two weeks after the staff attended the self-reflective seminar and did the exercise; the researchers gave both that group and those who chose not to attend this seminar, a quiz on interpersonal behaviors as mitigating and mediating factors for workplace violence.
