One of Europe’s biggest challenges today is managing the flow of immigrants and

refugees from Syria and other countries in Northern Africa and the Middle East.

Some argue that the Brexit vote was in large part a response to immigration

challenges in the United Kingdom. What do you think will be the consequences to

the rest of the European Union if the United Kingdom imposes stricter controls on

immigration? What will be the consequences to the United Kingdom?

Is Europe’s support of minority languages an important cultural development or a

waste of time and resources?

Okay, that’s a harshly stated question, but it belies and important reality. Something is inevitably

given up when governments commit resources to the preservation of minority languages. I want

you to think about the trade-offs. And really, there’s no uniquely correct answer. A compelling

argument can be made either way.
