Description The goal of this paper is to provide you with an opportunity to analyze your leadership style and explore both your leadership and followership qualities. By examining the scholarly literature and leadership theory in relation to your leadership abilities, you can enhance your understanding of effective leadership and engage in personal and professional development to strengthen you leadership praxis. Lastly, you will have an opportunity to explore the responsibilities of the registered nurse for leadership.
Instructions
Write a 6-7 page (double spaced) scholarly paper integrating a thorough reflection of your lived experience of leadership or followership and your development in support of nursing praxis. This paper should incorporate the readings, learning activities, reflections and discussions in the first four weeks of the course, in addition to other relevant scholarly literature.
Papers must include:
1) Reflection based on the results of a leadership self-assessment tool and review of leadership and followership qualities described in the literature, including those found in mindful leadership and emotionally intelligent leaders. Please indicate which leadership self-assessment tool you have completed and include in your references. Please discuss which leadership qualities/behaviours relate to the findings of your self-assessment.
2) Compare and contrast your self-assessment, including your strengths and areas in need of development to those described in the literature in terms of the outcomes of consequences of leadership.
3) Choose a leadership and a followership strength, identified in the reflection above, and provide a detailed example of how you used these strengths in your leadership practice and the outcomes achieved by your leadership.
4) Choose a leadership and a followership ability, based on the reflection above, that you would like to improve upon. Provide rationale and detailed examples of each as to why you need to improve on this leadership/followership quality.
5) Create two leadership development goals (learning needs) based on your writing above. Provide two evidence-based strategies that you will use to address these goals.
6) Discuss your responsibilities as a registered nurse for nursing leadership. You can use the CNO entry-to-practice competencies as a starting place, and augment your writing with the CNO standards/guidelines, CNA position statements etc.
The paper must be APA style and supported with scholarly references from the course and from your literature search. Please refer to the marking rubric for additional information. Evaluation will be based on the marking rubric and university grading descriptors. The cover page and the reference list are NOT included in the 6-7 page limit.
